I make homemade chocolate syrup for my family because I don’t like the chemicals and high fructose corn syrup in the store-bought options. It is super easy, the kids can help, and it tastes so much better!
We use approx. 2 tbls in a 16oz glass of milk. Be prepared that the milk does not look super chocolaty, but my family says it tastes more chocolatey than the stuff that makes the milk look brown.
Homemade Dye Free Chocolate Syrup:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar (or 100% pure maple syrup instead of sugar)
1 cup water
1/2 cup cocoa powder
Salt (optional)
Instructions:
- combine ingredients in a sauce pan, bring to boil, stirring frequently. (Its easier to mix chocolate in fully once hot)
- reduce to low let simmer 15-20 minutes
- wait for it to cool then store in fridge for up to two – four weeks.
- I do add about ½ teaspoon of salt myself. You can add ¼ tsp to 1 tsp depending on how y’all lke it.
