Homemade Dye Free Strawberry Syrup

My husband LOVES strawberry milk, so I started make homemade strawberry syrup for the family, because I don’t like the chemicals and high fructose corn syrup in the store bought options. It is super easy, the kids can help, and it tastes so much better!

We use approx. 1 tbls in a 16oz glass of milk. Be prepared that the milk does not look super pink, but my family says it tastes stronger  than the stuff that makes the milk look pink.

Homemade dye free strawberry syrup!

Ingredients:

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

1 cup strawberries chopped

Instructions:

  • add all ingredients in a saucepan bring to a boil, stirring and mashing strawberries frequently
  • reduce heat to low let simmer for 15 minutes
  • remove from heat, smush strawberries again to get most of juice out
  • strain over a fine mesh strainer, wait for it to cool and store in fridge for up to 2-4 weeks

Note: I prefer it cooked for 15 minutes, but if you prefer a thicker syrup to use on ice cream, you can let it simmer until it’s reduced by a third.
